How does income verification actually work without sending the bank statement?
Your bank participates in a zero-knowledge proof. The math: your bank confirms "this account holder's income exceeds $X" — and that's all the landlord ever sees. Will my landlord accept this instead of the usual paperwork?
RenterTree integrates with the systems landlords already use — AppFolio, Yardi, Buildium, Entrata, RentManager, plus the major listing networks (Apartments.com, Zillow, Realtor.com). For independent landlords without those systems, a single-link verification page works on any device. The landlord experience is "click a link, see verified results" — same friction as a credit-pull, with much higher signal.
What about renters with thin credit history or no rental record?
The Passport carries multiple signals — verified identity, income proof, rental history, eviction record, and whatever positive history exists. Renters with thin credit but a strong income proof and clean record will be visible to landlords who currently dismiss them based on credit-score-alone screens. The platform expands the criteria a landlord can accept on, not just the speed.
How is privacy actually protected? Where does the data live?
The verified-human credential lives on your device's secure chip — not on our servers. Biometric data is processed locally and never uploaded. Income and rental history are stored as encrypted attestations. ZK proofs reveal only the answer to a specific question (e.g., "income above threshold?") and nothing else. One-click export is available on every tier under JDNA-19 Universal Data Portability. You can leave with everything you brought.
Is this just for the United States?
U.S. launch first. International rollout follows the regulatory tailwind: UK, Ireland, France, and EU member states all have rental documentation laws that the RECAP standard satisfies natively. The Passport architecture is country-agnostic — the rollout pace is set by which property-management systems we integrate first.
